2023 brought many new and exciting movies to the theaters. There were movies in all different genres for everyone to enjoy, including horror, comedy, action, romance, and many more.

  Two of the most popular movies to come out of 2023, which also happened to be released on the same day, were “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.” When these released it became a trend to watch them back-to-back, which became known as “Barbenheimer.” 

  Although these movies were released on the same day, they are complete opposites. “Oppenheimer” is about World War II and the first nuclear explosion, while “Barbie” is about Barbie and Ken visiting the real world and discovering the joys and perils of living among humans. 

  Marvel also had some popular releases in 2023, including “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Guardians of the Galaxy 3.” Marvel Studios continues to put on great action-packed movies each year for everyone to watch.

  2023 was a big year for the Taylor Swift listeners as well. Her “Era’s Tour” became so popular that she released a movie of the tour. This movie was very popular with her listeners. It was a way of seeing the tour if they weren’t able to see it in person.

  Another very popular and highly anticipated movie that was released in November of 2023 was “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” This movie was a prequel to the very well-known “Hunger Games” series, which is why its release became so popular. 

  This movie also made Film and Lit teacher Haley Farringer’s Top Movies of 2023 list, which includes “1. Barbie, 2. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, 3. Wish, and 4. Oppenheimer.”

  At the end of 2023, all of these movies’ hard work finally paid off during the Golden Globe Awards, as two of the most popular movies of the year, “Barbie” won 2 awards, and “Oppenheimer” won 5. 

  Another big award winner at the Golden Globes was “Poor Things,” with 7 nominations and 2 wins. This movie is about a girl who was brought back to life by a scientist and how she finds her way to break free from societal constraints. The main actress in this movie is Emma Stone, who won an award for her performance in this movie.

  Many popular and great movies were released in 2023 and there are many more to look forward to coming in 2024.
