After countless games and many practices senior Grace Johnson has officially committed to Sauk Valley Community College on May 6th to continue her softball and academic career in radiology.
Throughout Johnson’s high school athletic career she has been involved in both volleyball and softball all four years along with cheerleading for three years. In softball, Grace has been in the outfield, volleyball as a middle, and a back and base for cheerleading. She expresses her time in high school on the softball team by saying “I enjoyed making all the friends along the way and making memories outside of practices, I will miss the most about S.H.S. softball is all the bonds I’ve made.”
Johnson initially wanted to play volleyball at SVCC, but plans changed once the SVCC softball coaches reached out wondering if Johnson would be willing to play on their team. This sparked an interest in her to continue on her softball career. She hopes “to go far in her college softball career and continue making bonds between her coaches and teammates.” Johnson was also involved in the SVCC impact program which helps grant free tuition up to three years. When asked about why she chose SVCC, Johnson added “Going to Sauk was the easiest option for me since I am guaranteed schooling and able to play close to home.”
Sophomore Haley Janssen who has been teammates with Grace in both cheerleading and softball adds, “There is never a dull moment with Grace and she always has the right things to say whether it was at practices or life advice.”
Her decision to attend SVCC was not just for athletics but also for her academic career. She plans to pursue a career in radiology, which SVCC offers a two year radiology tech program. Her interest to go into radiology started from her internship at CGH Medical Center. After attending SVCC she plans to continue her studies with radiology and possibly continue with softball when she transfers to a bigger university.
