Farmapalooza returned this year as one of the most exciting events hosted by the Sterling FFA Chapter, bringing students together from across the district for a day centered around agriculture and hands-on learning. Months of preparation went into Farmapalooza as the FFA members worked together to plan activities and create interactive booths for the students.
Farmapalooza had both student-led booths and industry-led booths. Students’ exhibits focused on topics such as livestock, taxidermy, soil and root systems, agriculture, farm equipment, and environmental impact. These booths allowed students to share their knowledge while teaching other students about agriculture in an interactive way.
Industry booths also gave students a look into careers and advancements within the agriculture field. Businesses and organizations involved in the event included Sauk Valley Bank, Green River Wind Farm, Birkey’s, Milledgeville Vet Clinic, Whiteside County Ag in the Classroom, Sterling FFA Alumni & Supporters, and Kitzman’s Farm Sanctuary. Students were able to ask questions and learn more about opportunities within the industry.
In addition to the educational booths, local food and drink vendors were also a part of the event. Shelby Rae’s, Culver’s, Rodger That Coffee, and Main Squeeze were the businesses that attended, giving students and staff a variety of treats to enjoy throughout the day.
Junior Kasey Weeks said, “One of my favorite parts of Farmapolooza was seeing all the animals and getting Roger That Coffee.”
FFA co-advisor and Farmapalooza planner Megan Stanley said, “Farmapalooza has stayed pretty consistent over the last few years, but recently we’ve decided to elect a theme for each year that influences how we select our Farmapalooza booths and structure our info and activities. Our hope for Farmapalooza is that young students learn that Agriculture is an all-encompassing field that touches all areas of our lives. My hopes for next year are that we can continue to expand the booths we offer and the types of animals we have!”
Farmapalooza continues to be an important event for Sterling FFA and the community. By combining education, entertainment, and community involvement, the event helps students learn more about agriculture and possible future career paths while creating an enjoyable experience for everyone who attends.
