Brent Faiyaz’s long-awaited album “Icon” is Faiyaz’s third studio album, released on February 13, 2026. “Icon” was originally set to release on September 19, 2025, but was unexpectedly pulled hours before release by Faiyaz himself. This decision was made after leading singles “peter pan.” and “tony soprano.” weren’t a good fit for Faiyaz’s vision, forcing him to go back to the drawing board.
While fans were disappointed with the sudden pull of the album, having stayed up until midnight for its release, he soon would not disappoint again. Faiyaz’s new approach would be to make the album more personal and understanding of himself. In response to his decision, Faiyaz would send his team a file labeled “Have To” which is another leading single and is featured on the album. In total, there are five leading singles, with two being YouTube exclusives, such as “full foon. (fall in tokyo)” and “if. (spring in new york)”. All five were released in 2025.
Upon the album’s official release, Faiyaz’s album “Icon” consists of 10 songs, all written in lowercase and punctuated with a period at the end of the title. The songs are “white noise.”, “wrong faces.”, “have to.”, “butterflies.”, “other side.”, “strangers.”, “world is yours.”, “four seasons.”, “pure fantasy.” and “vanilla sky.” “Icon” explores themes across his public image, and his own personal identity which is a common theme Faiyaz has hinted in past projects, fully realized in the album.
In “strangers.” Fayaz admits, “I told you everything, you told me parts of you.” The line suggests that while Faiyaz offers complete honesty of himself, others remain hesitant of revealing themselves, fueling a sense of Brent Faiyaz’s vulnerability and authenticity. In essence the line directly stems from the album’s recurring focus on Faiyaz’s character/personal identity.
Additional evidence further supporting “Icon” can be viewed as a personal representation of himself is that there are no features, not even on the singles, fully revealing himself and his thoughts through his own lyricalism. On February 16, Faiyaz put out a deluxe edition called “Icon (Director’s Cut)” that includes two new songs. The previous YouTube exclusives have been added to the deluxe and are now available everywhere, with the “single if. (spring in new york)” being renamed “1 for you. (spring in new york)”.
Aside from the theme of “Icon”, added details about the album include its run time of 33 minutes and 38 seconds, its release under labels ISO Supremacy and United Masters, and, upon release, a music video from Lyrical Lemonade directed by Cole Bennett of the song “wrong faces”.
In my personal opinion, the decision to initially pull the album was an excellent choice, as after hearing the first two singles, I felt as though there was no meaning behind them and they sounded like the previous album, “LARGER THAN LIFE”, giving a repetitive feeling. If I were to pick a favorite song on the album, it would have to be “pure fantasy.” I feel as if the song gives a vintage, upbeat, and Michael Jackson-inspired sound, coupled with Faiyaz’s different tone of vocals throughout the song, as well as the album as a whole.
“Icon” is truly a distinct piece of artwork compared to Faiyaz’s discography and is potentially the spark to a new era for Faiyaz and an inspiration for other artists of any genre.
