“Marty Supreme” is a new 2025 sports comedy-drama film which was released on December 25, 2025. It is loosely based on the real-life, legendary table tennis player Marty Reisman. Reisman was a ruling figure in the 1940s and 50s known for his fierce style, charisma, and obsession with the game. The cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Odessa A’zion, Tyler Okanma, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The film was directed by Josh Safdie and produced by Safdie and Chalamet. The film’s first scene is set in a back room of a shoe store, between a twenty-three-year-old salesman named Marty Mauser (Chalamet), and a young married woman named Rachel (A’zion).
It later dives into Mauser’s true happiness, table tennis. Even though he is a local hustler who plays for modest stakes, he is about to prove that he is the best player in the world at an international table-tennis tournament in London, England.
In the movie, Okanma stars as Mauser’s friend Wally. He is a taxi driver who is also very skilled at the game. Together their friendship stays strong throughout the whole movie showing a true ride or die dynamic between the two of them.
“It was really cool to see one of my favorite music artists act so well in this new movie,” said sophomore Alaena Lugo.
Back at home, Mauser’s childhood best friend Rachel (A’zion) is pregnant with his child who he has no idea about. He doesn’t find out about this until he returns home.
After returning from Tokyo he reunites with Rachel at the hospital. He then professes his love to her and breaks down in tears upon meeting his newborn son for the first time.
In my opinion Marty Supreme was a great movie that showed how people at the very bottom can make their way up to the top. This movie is definitely aimed more towards adults because there are some graphic scenes in it. Overall this is a great movie and it shows the hardships of extreme ambition and perfectionism.
