Boys Basketball
Record: Overall: 6-25, Conference: 2-12 (8th)
Key Contributors: Senior Xavian Prather and Junior Jack Saathoff
Accomplishments: Jack Saathoff broke the all-time single-season rebounding record surpassing the mark previously held by Aidan Shore of 347, with Xavian Prather being their lead scorer. When Saathoff expressed his emotions on his record-breaking success, he said, “It felt amazing to break such a great accomplishment.” Throughout the season, the team overcame many battles, but always fought together. The Sterling Warriors lost five starters from last year’s team, resulting in having a very young group this year, with many freshmen getting minutes. Though their record may not tell the full story, the growth they saw over the course of the season gives the coaches and players great optimism moving forward.
Girls Basketball
Record: Overall: 22-10, Conference: 8-6 (4th)
Key Contributors: Starters Senior Alivia Gibson, Senior Jaelynn James, Junior Joslynn James, Junior Nia Harris, and Junior Joslyn Green with Senior Macie Lofgren and Sophomore Brenley Johnson coming off of the bench.
Accomplishments: With winning against many state-ranked teams throughout the year and being the champions of the Dixon tournament, the girls won 22 games this season, which is always the goal of the program. Jossy James broke the record for most three-pointers in a game, most three-pointers in a career, and reached 1,000 points as a junior.
Boys Swimming
Record: 2nd in conference and 3rd place at sectionals
Key Contributors: Junior Denver Sandrock and Sophomore Lucas Porter
Accomplishments: Entering the season, high goals were set to give these Warriors the best experience possible. With endless practices and making top five at all invites, these boys were excited to enter the post season. Securing an overall third place finish at sectionals gave them such a high confidence boost to help them move forward. Two individual athletes, junior Denver Sandrock and sophomore Lucas Porter qualified for State in three different events which are difficult to complete due to swimming being a one-class sport in the state of Illinois. Sandrock placed 21st in the 200 freestyle, 29th in the 500 freestyle, and Porter placed 45th in the 100 freestyle. After Sandrock broke the school record in the 500 freestyle at sectionals, he reset his own record at the IHSA State Finals with a new time of 4:46.91. Overall, the team was ranked 2nd in the conference with Coach Kyle Ruiz was selected as sectional coach of the year.
Boys Bowling
Record: Conference meet finish: 10th
Key Contributors: Senior Bryce Kooy and Sophomore Grady Witmer
Accomplishments: This year’s boys bowling team came 10th place at regionals with Kooy placing 65th as an individual at sectionals. The boys worked hard this season by giving their all at practices and performing to the best of their abilities at meets.
Girls Bowling
Record: 1st in conference and 10th place at sectionals
Key Contributors: Junior Sarah Doughty, Sophomore Loren Fox, and Freshman Adaya Frohling
Accomplishments: This year’s girls bowling team knew what they wanted and accomplished everything they could during their amazing season. They won the United Township Panther Invitational, along with the Sterling MLK Invitational on top of that. Two varsity teams were fielded to the 20 Team Dixon Invitational finishing in second place and tenth place. As the end of the season approached, S.H.S. Girls bowling were the Western Big 6 Conference Champions. While entering the post season, the girls placed third at regionals, tenth at sectionals, and had one individual state qualifier, Junior Sarah Doughty who became the 2025-2026 state champion. Doughty expressed her love for bowling by stating how she was “very happy with how [her] personal season went. [She] achieved [her] goals of throwing a 300, winning [their] conference as a team and as an individual, going to state, winning state, and breaking many more school records.” Coach Loren Wolf ended his 11th season with a 87-68 coaching record.
