After years of early mornings, late nights, and countless games, senior Alivia Gibson has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Sauk Valley Community College.
For Gibson, her decision is more than just choosing a school, but shows her dedication and growth throughout the years. From having to balance homework with practice to pushing through tough losses and celebrating big wins, Gibson has consistently shown what it means to be committed both on and off the court.
“I chose Sauk Valley Community College because it offered a strong academic and athletic balance. The coaching staff showed genuine interest in my development,” Gibson said. The balance for Gibson played a major role in her decision.
She wanted a program that would challenge her in not only the classroom but also on the court, helping her elevate her performance in basketball. After visiting campus and making a connection with the coaches, she knew it is where she wanted to be.
The day she officially committed was an unforgettable moment for her. “It felt rewarding and motivating. It made all of my hard work feel meaningful,” she said. Years of constant training, conditioning, studying, and limiting her free time has led her to this milestone. Singing for Gibson was about recognizing everything it took to get her here.
Throughout her high school career, Gibson gave a lot of credit to the support system that she has been surrounded by for so many years. “They’ve strengthened my discipline, confidence, and work ethic, helping me grow both aesthetically and personally,” referring to her coaches throughout her years who guided her along the way. The way they believed in her abilities gave her the confidence and helped shape her into the incredible athlete and student she is today.
As she prepares to go into the next step of life, Gibson carries the lessons she has learned along the way and the determination that got her this far. Gibson is planning to study nursing in obstetrics. Sauk Valley Community College is gaining not only a talented athlete but also a hardworking student.
