On Friday, January 16, senior Abby Ryan proudly announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at Loras College, a NCAA Division III program. Ryan plans to spend the next four years majoring in Elementary Education and Track and Field at Loras College.
Ryan said, “I just knew like the first time I visited I just knew that’s where I wanted to be.”
While Ryan is excited, she also knows there will be an adjustment period when transitioning from being a high school athlete to a college one.
Ryan said, “I’ve been a 2/3 sport athlete my whole life and do know time management and I’m just really excited to tune in on only track for the next four years.”
Ryan credits Coach Martin at Loras as the biggest influence in her decision. Ryan shared, “She made the decision so easy, she isn’t just a coach she was so sweet sending me instagram reels and financially she has helped so much. Also, the girls from Loras stayed consistent with texting me and when I visited they made me want to be there.”
Ryan always planned to go to college after high school. She said, “I hope to continue to PR and get up to good heights. I hope to make great forever friends. I know that Coach Marin has my back and will get me to heights that’s right now would seem impossible.”
After meeting the coaches and the team, she expressed that the players had great energy all around and have already made connections at Loras.
Ryan said, “I love my family, but as the youngest of 6 and they all left for college I am definitely ready to be independent just like all my siblings are. I knew it was a good decision to leave, especially this year.”
Ryan is ready to face new beginnings and challenges at Loras College while studying elementary education and continuing her passion for track and field. With the support of dedicated coaches and a welcoming team, Ryan is set to achieve personal bests and build lasting friendships.
