Recently, Sterling boys soccer player Ian Hilty announced his commitment to Bethel University (Minneapolis, Minnesota). The central attacking midfielder, known for staying composed during intense pressure, goal scoring ability, and creative playmaking, decided with academics and athletics in mind.
Teammate Leonardo Uresti stated,“Ian was always a great teammate and captain. He always had the best mindset and attitude whether we were losing by five or winning by five. I really couldn’t ask for a better role model on the pitch and off the pitch.”
Hilty has been a popular name on the field as he was on varsity all four years of his high school career. The promising midfielder was just named Western Big 6 second team all-conference for his impressive senior year. As a junior, Hilty was also announced Honorable Mention all-conference.
When asked why he chose soccer for Bethel, Hilty said, “I ultimately pursued Bethel University after visiting the college a couple times and experiencing the student life on campus. A lot of what played into my college choice was how I felt God was directing me and Bethel was that place. The location of the university is also very nice as it’s in Minnesota which is known for its beauty in nature. The aspect that played into my decision was an offer on the soccer team which is a very amazing opportunity to take.”
Hilty had a fabulous senior year racking up 10 goals and 7 assists adding up to 17 G/A with only 21 games played. Hilty was also named MVP of the Sterling boys soccer team.
With this commitment, Bethel University added not just an outstanding player but a leader ready to make an impact his freshman year.
