Freshmen erspective on High School

The Class of 2027 has recently moved up and into freshman year, their first year of high school. With doing so I, Maddison Wickham, reviewed three freshmen asking about their perspective and thoughts on high school so far.

In October 2023, Homecoming was held and offered many opportunities for students to participate.   Freshman Sophia Sheley said, “Homecoming seemed fun but also overrated.”

Currently, Sheley’s favorite teacher is choir director Weston Henry. Choir class is her favorite class also. Sheley mentioned that the high school has more sports here and that the players are also more involved in their sports.

Next, I interviewed freshman Billy Mills who participates in wrestling. Mays shared the sports here in comparison to middle school are harder. Mills enjoyed homecoming. His favorite teacher is English teacher Hannah Carbaugh and his favorite classes are math and choir. Not everything is an upgrade according to Mills as he shared that “the lunch is very bad.” Lastly, his favorite part of high school is that it’s overall pretty fun in his opinion.

Lastly, we have freshman Amaya Biggs. Buggs was excited about homecoming, seeing that it was her first serious dance. One thing she is looking forward to is “more opportunities and space to discover myself.”  Biggs believes that the sports do have a difference “since we’re getting closer to college, the people interested in sports as their profession become more serious. There are also a lot more opportunities!” Bigg’s favorite part of high school is her friends and Scone, the therapy dog at S.H.S. Lastly, she claims “school lunch is kind of nasty… but they do have some good things! Like the fries and the bread.”

The change between middle school and high school does have a major difference but these freshmen and others are looking to make the most of it.
