History was made at the Dixon Holiday Tournament when junior Joslynn James made her way into the record books by scoring her 1000th point against Rockford Christian. This made her the tenth Golden Warrior to reach the 1000-point milestone. This is a major accomplishment, showing her dedication, consistency, and love for the game of basketball.
Reaching the 1000-point club is definitely no small achievement. It reflects on how much time outside of practice James has put in, illustrates her growth, and discipline. For James, the moment carried a deep meaning. “It is a huge accomplishment to hit 1000 points. It feels like another milestone of hard work being paid off,” James shared.
Behind the early mornings and late nights, her commitment is always there. James said, “In order to accomplish this, I had to put in countless hours in the gym with persistent hard work.” Being committed to becoming the best player she could be is truly the motivation.
While her individual milestone is often what people look at, James made it clear that her achievement was not just earned by herself. She gave her team much credit for creating such an open environment for her to grow. “My team has believed and encouraged me, on and off the court allowing me to attain this goal,” she said, also including that the growth from her teammates made the moment ten times more special than it already is.
Despite reaching such a large milestone, her focus is still clear on what’s to come. Rather than focusing on what happened, James put her focus toward goals she still wants to accomplish. James added, “My goal for the rest of the season is for our team to score 67 points and go on a postseason run.” After an incredible season last year, making it to the super sectional, James is hoping to repeat history and possibly make it farther.
James continues to lead by her example, influencing the next group of kids to reach high school, her 1000th point stands as much more than just a number, but also represents the countless amounts of hours spent in the gym, her commitment and dedication to the sport she loves and her perseverance that will continue to influence young kids for years to come.
