ER: Say “no” to Stanley

It seems every year or two a new water bottle is chosen to be the next big thing. Stanleys started to gain popularity in late 2022 and now sales have skyrocketed and stores are struggling to keep the shelves stocked. But is this water bottle better than others? I think not.

When compared to other brands, for example SLM, Hydro Flask, and Owala, the Stanley did not keep water cold for as long as the SLM bottle did. Another flaw buyers have noticed is its lack of leakproof. Many people prefer a bottle that won’t leak when tipped on its side.

Sophomore Adylyn Crandall said, “I like my Owala because it’s not obnoxiously large like a Stanley. It also doesn’t leak if it falls over like Stanleys do so it’s more convenient to just throw it in a sports bag or something.”

Stanley’s went viral for the size of the cup being so large but still able to fit into a cupholder. But with the bottle being so big it started many jokes across social media, mainly people poking fun at those who carry around the very large bottle.

Is the Stanley worth the price? Most people think yes, but is that what they think or what the internet has led them to believe? Stanley’s come in many sizes, the most popular being the 40 oz tumbler, which costs $45. Compared to the price of the Owala Free Sip 40 oz bottle which is $37.

Many people who have hopped on the Stanley trend don’t like the bottle and prefer something else. The bottle has been rumored to be very difficult to clean due to the multiple parts on the lid. After owning the bottle for a long time many people discovered mold under the centerpiece of the lid.

Sophomore Maelynn Sisak-Westfall said, “My least favorite part of my Stanley will have to be that it feels like it weighs 45 pounds and it spills a lot.” Stanleys are very heavy bottles like any 40 oz water bottle would be, but the shape of the bottle can cause inconvenience when carrying other things at the same time.

Overall there are many cons to this water bottle causing it to be unworthy of your money. For such an expensive bottle it should not be as difficult to manage when it comes to cleaning, carrying, and keeping it up right.
