Seniors at Sterling High School are given the opportunity to earn one of the school’s highest honors: Student of the Month (SoTM). This recognition is awarded to seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and a positive representation of S.H.S. For the month of April, seniors Eve Bentowski and Landon Kukowski were selected for this honor.
Throughout her time at S.H.S., Bentowski has built an impressive academic record, earning a 4.3 GPA through a rigorous courseload. In terms of AP and accelerated courses, she has taken AP Human Geography, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, and AP United States History, along with numerous accelerated courses as an underclassmen.
When not in the classroom, Bentowski is a great asset to Centennial Auditorium’s tech crew for both S.H.S. productions and third-party groups. Additionally, she is a captain on the scholastic bowl team and the violin section’s first-chair in rrchestra. Outside of school, she enjoys painting and reading, and continues her theater tech hobby in local churches. After graduating from S.H.S., Bentowski is attending Illinois Wesleyan University with plans of becoming a future biochemist.
The second SoTM for April is Landon Kukowski. Achieving a GPA of 3.95, Kukowski has been recognized as the Whiteside Area Career Center SoTM. He is involved in FFA and has qualified for numerous proficiencies on the state level, and served as the club’s vice president as a sophomore and junior. He also served as a captain of the football team and was given the titles of all-conference honorable mention and academic all-conference.
When he’s not at S.H.S. participating in academics, athletics, or activities, Kukowski spends his time as an usher at Abiding Word Church. He also volunteers frequently throughout the community as a member of Sauk Valley Community College’s Impact Program. After graduation, he plans to attend the SLTC Lineman Training School and serve in an apprenticeship with Com-Ed.
Bentowski and Kukowski are both dedicated individuals who have represented S.H.S. well and will go on to lead a successful future.
