Student of the Month is an award given to seniors who show tremendous efforts and great academic achievement. It allows them to apply for Student of the Year which is an essay based award. These students are involved in extracurricular activities and demonstrate leadership all throughout S.H.S. The February Students of the Month are Chloe Clark and Ross Eden.
Clark has completed multiple accelerated and AP courses throughout her time at S.H.S. that have benefited her for the future. Those courses include AP United States History, AP Language & Composition, AP Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, AP Psychology, and many more accelerated classes. She has maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.83 and a weighted GPA of 4.17.
Outside of class, Clark competes in girls swim and dive in which she was captain this year. She earned her varsity letter and has won Warrior of The Meet multiple times throughout her three years of swim and dive. She was also inducted into the National Honor Society and earned the GPA award during her sophomore and junior years.
Clark also does volunteer work through the kids/nursery part of New Life Church. She also does a vacation bible school for New Life. Her hobbies consist of floral design, crafting, and swimming. Clark plans on going to college and studying business and later going to school for floral design. She hopes to one day own her own floral business.
Eden has also taken accelerated and AP courses throughout high school. These include AP Government, AP Biology, AP Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, and AP English Language and Composition. He has also completed AP Music Theory all while maintaining a GPA of 4.40.
Eden has earned many awards throughout his time at Sterling High School. He has been an AP Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He also has been the ILMEA District Senior Band tuba player since his sophomore year. Eden has also taken on the role as his section leader in the band. He is involved in many clubs and activities here at S.H.S. such as tennis, scholastic bowl captain, student council, Key Club, Robotics, and bowling.
During his freshman year, Eden also won Student of the Month along with an ABC Academic Achievement. Eden does volunteer work through Boy Scouts and his hobbies include rockhounding, reading, and showing rabbits on the national level. After high school Eden plans on going to a four-year college and getting a bachelor in mechanical engineering, but may also double major in mechanical engineering and another branch of STEM.
Both Clark and Eden demonstrate great academic ability, leadership, and involvement in S.H.S., meeting the standards for Student of the Month.
