Student of the Month is an award that seniors at Sterling High School strive to achieve. This award represents students who work hard to succeed academically. They are involved in extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership in their school, and positively represent S.H.S. December’s Students of the Month are seniors Ian Hilty and Mackenzie Wolfe.
Ian Hilty completed accelerated and AP courses through his time at S.H.S. that have prepared him for his future plans of attending a four-year university studying pre-physical therapy. He has completed AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Language and Composition, as well as accelerated math courses. He has maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.81 and a weighted GPA of 4.05.
Outside of class, Hilty plays soccer where he was a varsity starter for all four years, he was also a team captain. He has also earned many awards for Track and Field. Hilty is also involved in choir, madrigals and National Honor Society. Hilty is involved in his community as he has completed over 75 hours of community service for the IMPACT program. Outside of school, Hilty enjoys running, hiking, and fishing.
Mackenzie Wolfe has also participated in Accelerated English 1 and 2, AP Language and Composition, and AP Psychology while maintaining an unweighted GPA of 3.89 and weighted GPA of 3.95. During her freshmen through junior years, she was awarded for maintaining a 3.75 GPA which earned her several academic incentives. Wolfe is an active member of the student council where she was junior representative. She also represented her class as a class officer during freshman, sophomore, and senior years.
Outside of school, Wolfe has tried out several sports such as poms, cheerleading, volleyball, and track and field. Wolfe is involved in her community, completing service hours for Bear Necessities and helping out with student council events such as classroom parties for elementary students. Wolfe plans to study elementary education and get her bachelor’s degree and later get her master’s degree. During her free time, Wolfe enjoys exercising, swimming, and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys working at Crystal Lake in the summer as a life guard.
These two students have demonstrated strong academic abilities, and have worked through academic challenges and balanced extracurricular activities.
