Seniors at Sterling High School are given the option to apply for the one of the school’s greatest honors, Student of the Month. The Students of the Month award is awarded to two individuals who have challenged themselves academically, participated in extracurricular activities/athletics, displayed themselves as a natural leader, and displayed S.H.S. and their community in a positive light. Seniors Macie Lofgren and Elijah Penne were awarded this honor for October.
Within her four years at S.H.S., Macie Lofgren has reached an outstanding grade point average of 4.25. While taking rigorous courses including AP Human Geography, AP United States History, AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP English Language and Composition, and AP Statistics. She has also taken a multitude of accelerated and challenging classes.
In addition to her heavy course load, Lofgren dedicates her time to the girls swim, basketball, and track teams. On the swim team, she is one of three co-captains. Additionally, Lofgren serves as the co-president of the Young Doctor’s League. Outside of school, she is a frequent volunteer at the New Life Lutheran Kid’s Church and the Future Golden Warriors basketball group.
Following her high school career, Lofgren plans to go to a four-year university and eventually become a nurse within the emergency unit. Ultimately, she plans to achieve higher education and become a nurse practitioner. She has already taken steps to this plan, as she currently is a certified nursing assistant.
The other Student of the Month for October is Elijah Penne. Penne is a leader in the classroom, holding a grade point average of 4.2. To achieve this goal, he was successful in AP Chemistry, AP Human Geography, AP Pre-Calculus, and AP United States History. Prior to the advanced placement courses, he completed accelerated classes within English, Math, and Science.
When not completing coursework, Peterson participates in National Honor Society, golf, and baseball. He was a captain for the golf team this past year and recently won the most improved in baseball.
Post-high school, Penne hopes to attend a four year university to achieve his undergraduate degree in biology with an emphasis in fisheries ecology. He also hopes to play baseball at the collegiate level.
These two dedicated individuals have taken major strides towards their future and will go on to accomplish great things post-high school.
