Sterling High School students and staff hosted homecoming week ‘25 from September 26 through October 4 in Sterling High School’s gym. After long discussions over the summer, “Tangled” was chosen as the Sterling High School ‘25 homecoming theme.
During Homecoming week, many activities were held around the school and students in all four grades participated. These games were a big part of homecoming since each grade is very competitive.
The first activity was the preassembly held at Musgrove Fieldhouse on September 26, the Friday before homecoming week. Students from each grade volunteered to participate in games against students from other grades.
Games played were musical chairs, the cup and pool noodle game, and tug a war.
Members from the Student Council came up with dress up days for the week of homecoming. The dress up days were color wars, dress to impress vs. dress to rest, welcome to the jungle, Legally Blond vs. James Bond, hero vs. villain, and spirit.
Homecoming Court voting round one was held on Tuesday, September 23 and the nominees were announced at the post assembly. The final round was held on Monday September 29 to decide which boy and girl were chosen from each grade.
The winners of the final votes for homecoming ‘25 court for freshmen were Maximus Macklin and Elin Shuman, sophomores Isaiah McClearin and Finley Rippy, juniors Quincy Maas and Rosie Cantu, king and queen were seniors Leila Anderson and Charles Johnson.
On Tuesday, September 30, the homecoming picnic and yearbook pickup was held on Fourth Avenue at the cul-de-sac from 11:40 a.m. till 12:40 p.m. Vendors included Shelby Raes, Candlelight, Main Squeeze, Roger That Coffee, Sunday Funday, Mendoza’s Taco Truck, and a few other businesses provided beverages and food for the picnic.
On Wednesday, October 1, numbers ball took place. Numbers ball is a kickball tournament with students from each grade at Roscoe Eades Stadium. In order to be eligible to play, students must have all detention hours served along with a canned good donation which is required for entry and participation. Students were rewarded with a Shelby Raes treat after competing.
On Thursday, October 2 the postassembly was held at Roscoe Eades Stadium towards the end of the school day. During the postassembly more games are played by students on the field including the balloon game, reaction cup game, and wheel barrow race. The fall dance team, cheer team, and the senior boys performed dances in between games.
On Friday, October 3, the school hosted a parade and each fall sports team decorated a float. It is always so exciting to see how each sport designed their float.
October 3 was also the homecoming football game. The theme for this game was pinkout, we faced Alleman and won 55-13.
Homecoming tickets were sold for $15 during lunch in the cafeteria and after school in the commons. The homecoming dance lasted from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
Homecoming 2025 was student council advisors Nicole Schlemmer and Alexis Ruiz last time organizing. Schlemmer said, “I think homecoming turned out BETTER than we planned!”
Both Ruiz and Shlemmer worked very hard to have a successful homecoming. Mrs. Shlemmer states her favorite “thing about planning was working with Ruiz and [their] club to see their visions come to life.”
Ruiz says “it is definitely bittersweet that it is my last year organizing homecoming”. She says she will miss “the outcome once the Field House is decorated the most”.
Ruiz feels the most fun part is seeing the outcome of hers, Shlemmers, and students’ ideas and seeing them come to life.
Overall, homecoming week is enjoyed by many people in the building and a great opportunity to socialize and make memories!
