
Student of the Month is an award that seniors at Sterling High School strive to achieve. Students who receive this award push themselves to be the best students they can be. They are involved in extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership in their school, and positively represent S.H.S.. The two students who were awarded Student of the Month in September were Charles Johnson and Hazel Pham.
Pham has taken numerous AP and accelerated courses throughout her time at S.H.S., such as Accelerated Algebra 1 and 2, Accelerated Geometry, AP Pre-Calculus, Accelerated Biology, AP Biology, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Accelerated English 1 and 2, AP Language and Composition, AP Human Geography, and AP United States History. Throughout these classes, she has maintained a 4.28 weighted GPA. Pham is the president of Young Doctors League, secretary of Key Club, Student Council member, National Honor Society officer, girls swim varsity captain, and Scholastic Bowl.
Outside of school, Pham volunteers in her community at church events, SVCC yard work, nursing home visits, and helping out at concession stands. She enjoys reading, arts and crafts, hanging out with friends, and playing the piano and violin. She plans to attend a four-year university to get a bachelor’s degree, then apply to study at a medical school.
Johnson has also taken numerous AP and accelerated courses at S.H.S. such as Accelerated Algebra 1 and 2, Accelerated Geometry, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Biology, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Accelerated English 1 and 2, AP Language and Composition, AP Human Geography, and AP United States History, Accelerated Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Statistics, and AP Literature and Composition. He maintained a weighted GPA of 4.13. Johnson is Key Club treasurer, boys varsity cross country captain, and is a member of the S.H.S. swim and track team. Johnson is in the National Honor Society, choir, and band. He also created his own business through the CEO program, called Snippet of Green.
Outside of school, Johnson completes community service hours for the IMPACT Program at SVCC, National Honor Society, and Key Club. He enjoys maintaining his fish tanks and terrariums, playing the piano, bicycling, running, playing pickleball, and working out. He plans to attend SVCC to figure out his future career plans.
These two amazing students set the bar for the rest of the Students of the Month. They are great examples of hardworking students.
