After hard work both on and off the court, senior Macie Lofgren has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Sauk Valley Community College for basketball. Although Lofgren suffered an injury during the 2025-2026 season, she did not let that get in the way of her goals. Lofgren said, “I chose Sauk because I wanted to continue my athletic and academic career. My season this past winter was very difficult after I tore my PCL. I ended up missing over 20 games. I wanted one more chance to prove myself on the court so I could get two more seasons with a whole different team.”
Lofgren looked for a program that would push her both athletically and scholastically, helping her grow as a student and as a player. Although she was hesitant at first, Lofgren ultimately made the decision to go forward with continuing her education at Sauk, as she stated, “I went on a college visit to Sauk where I learned all about the program and fun things we would do as a college basketball team. I was very uncertain about playing, but ultimately a week later I texted the head coach and said that I would love to walk on to their basketball team.”
Years of commitment through conditioning, practice, and balancing classwork with athletics led her to this success, making her signing a reflection of all the work she has put forth. Throughout her high school career, Lofgren credits her achievements to the sturdy support system that she was surrounded by.
“If it wasn’t for my coaches, teammates, and family I would not have chosen to continue my athletic career. I have worked tremendously hard and these people helped me realize that,” Lofgren said. She highlighted how the motivation from those around her helped form her into the athlete and student she is today.
As she prepares for the next chapter, Lofgren plans to complete her prerequisites for nursing at Sauk Valley Community College before continuing her schooling in a nursing program at a four-year university. Sauk Valley is obtaining a devoted athlete and a determined student ready to thrive both on the court and in the classroom.
