The Taste of Fiesta and Fiesta Day Parade has been a tradition for many many years in the Sterling/Rock Falls area. Many gather together to enjoy food and many live events.
The celebration of Hispanic Heritage month is planned across two weeks. Founded in 2011, starting a long line of celebration to come.
Taste of Fiesta is an all day event that has food trucks, stands and live music for everyone to enjoy. In the very beginning, they start with a coordinator explaining the events and a flag presentation to see all the Hispanic countries.
During the Taste of Fiesta, a group of people perform a fan favorite, folklore dance, after they are done the event has live music and games for everyone to play. This is an all-day event that starts at noon and goes on until the late afternoon.
Lots of people attend and have provided wonderful feedback. Sophomore Ronni Oyen stated, “Going to the Taste of Fiesta with my friends is something I look forward to every year. My favorite part is watching the dances.”
One of the live music entertainers that were there was Pelon’s Music. Sophomore Daisy Lopez also shared, “I love going to the Taste of Fiesta with my family because we love listening to the live music and it’s a really fun environment. My favorite thing is watching all of the dances.”
The following week is the Fiesta Day Parade. The parade is filled with some of the same people who participated in the Taste of Fiesta. It’s a way for some businesses to promote themselves and make others aware of some organizations or businesses.
After the parade, there are food stands all along the street and downtown Sterling. At the Civic Center, near the post office, there are more performances, food stands/trucks, as well as live music.
