This fall season, the Sterling High School theatre program is performing “Clue,” for their annual fall play. “Clue” is a show where six strangers are invited to a large mansion, with no idea what they’re there for.
Their host, Mr. Boddy, played by freshman Max Macklin, reveals he has been blackmailing them, but is then killed. Whilst the bodies pile up, the guests and staff try to find who the killer is.
Other parts include, Jonas White as Wadsworth, Malachi Johnson as Colonel Mustard, Lydia Langley as Mrs. White, Harper Johnson as Mrs. Peacock, Avery Moran as Ms. Green, and Jacob Marruffo as Professor Plum.
Auditions for “Clue” took place on September 8, the cast list was released on September 9, and the first practice was on September 10. Junior Trinity Pankey expressed that “it was super exciting because we immediately got feedback on our auditions and could start working with our character.”
The students immediately got to work, learning the blocking directly after being cast. Due to the immediate rehearsals, the show was learned quite quickly.
Students showcased their talent by knowing lines by October 1, which was very impressive due to the fact that they had only been practicing for a month at that time. After lines were worked out, the cast members brought stuffed animals to watch them in a “speed run” of the show.
A “speed run” would be saying lines and running blocking as fast as you can. The point of a “speed run” is to make sure all of the cast members remember every aspect of the show by thinking swiftly.
For over a month, the cast has been working without a set. But now that it is here, all the cast can see the set is very complex, which created a bit of a setback. Though lots of work had to be put in, the set eventually came together.
The performances of this show take place on October 24-26. This murder mystery is very fun and witty, to which I would recommend stopping by to support S.H.S. theater!
