A familiar face comes back this year to lead the Golden Warriors boys’ soccer team to success. Chris Interone returns as head coach this year with new improvements and tactics for the team. Interone started as boys varsity head coach from 2006-2013. During this time, Interone was able to hold a few regional titles and was also inducted into Sterling’s Hall Of Fame with the boys 2011 soccer team.
After that, he became an assistant coach for the team up until 2018. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic caused him to move in town and even brought him back to be an assistant coach after moving to Madison to coach a private middle school. During the 2024 fall season, Interone stepped in as a head coach and even achieved his 100th win as a head coach. Interone started the season with a different mindset than the past.
He states, “This year I tried something a little different. Instead of a heavy focus on conditioning, I used a lot of small-sided games to build both fitness and creativity. I want my players to think fast and solve problems under pressure, because that’s what makes the game fun and challenging.”
These little adjustments are the key points to the season. Instead of practices starting at 3:30, they have been changed to 6-8 on certain days of the week. Captain senior Ian Hilty also sees changes in the team this year.
Hilty shared, “This year has been different from any year I’ve played at Sterling High school, Coach Chris has bonded the team together and has directly impacted our chemistry on and off the field with one another.”
The boys soccer team has had a good season and team bonding so far. The post season starts October 17 and continues until the beginning of November. We wish our Golden Warriors and returning Head Coach Interone a fantastic fall season this year.
