The Sterling High School Student of The Month (SoTM) is the highest level of achievement for seniors. SoTM winners are students who have challenged themselves, been involved in activities and/or clubs, and have taken leadership roles in certain aspects. The April SoTM recipients were Merrick Amanwka and Kyle Hutchison.
Amankwa has kept herself involved in many activities and has taken many higher courses. She has worked hard throughout her high school career and has maintained a 3.821 GPA. She has taken on many rigorous courses such as AP Biology, AP Language and Composition, and many different accelerated classes, keeping herself challenged over her years at S.H.S.
While also having a major course load, Amankwa is involved in Black Student Union, National Honor Society, varsity basketball, and varsity volleyball. She has also received many honors such as senior class officer, freshman February student of the month, and being accepted as a member of the National Honor Society.
After high school, Amankwa plans on attending University of Wisconsin-Platteville to continue her volleyball career and study business.
The other SoTM recipient is Kyle Hutchison. Hutchison has maintained a 3.955 GPA over his years at S.H.S. He has taken many challenging classes like AP Biology, AP Human Geography, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP United States History, AP Government, and AP Psychology.
Along with taking many rigorous classes, Hutchison is involved in boys soccer, choir, theater, madrigals, fellowship of christian athletes, and group interpretation. He has received many honors such as being a National Honor Society member, 2023 All-State & Sectional Group Interpretation cast member, and ILMEA District 8 Musician.
Hutchison plans on attending University of Wisconsin Milwauke’s PECK School of the Arts. He plans on majoring in film.
Both of these students have put forward their best effort throughout their high school career, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
