The S.H.S. Student of the Month (SotM) is the highest level of academic and extracurricular recognition for S.H.S. seniors. SotM winners are students who have challenged themselves with rigorous courses, are involved in many activities and/or athletics, have taken on a leadership role within the school community, and portray S.H.S. in a positive light.
The two students that were awarded this title for February are Eleanor Aitken and James Wadsworth.
Within her high school career, Aitken has demonstrated her value at S.H.S. with the many clubs and activities she is involved in; she has also worked very hard throughout high school to achieve a 4.156 GPA.
Aiken has taken rigorous courses such as AP Human Geography, AP United States History, AP Language and Composition, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Government, AP Literature and Composition, AP Environmental Science, and AP Psychology. As well as her AP course load, Aitken has also taken several accelerated courses to challenge herself during her time at S.H.S.
In addition to her course load, Aitken was part of the girls tennis team, girls track and field team, travel club, student council, class officer, madrigals/chambers, National Honor Society, musicals, choir, and band.
Aitken also got the honor of being a two-time captain for the girls tennis team. Following her high school career, Aitken plans on attending University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to continue her academic career, as well as her athletic career in tennis.
After college, Aitken hopes to pursue a career as an interpretive National Park Ranger.
The other Student of the Month recipient is James Wadsworth. Wadsworth is a hard working student achieving a 4.056 GPA. To achieve this, Wadsworth has taken AP U.S. History.
During his time at S.H.S. Wadsworth has obtained a 3.75 or higher GPA every year of high school. When not focusing on school work, Wadsworth participated in football, track, and baseball.
Wadsworth achieved the role of varsity captain for football during his senior year. He’s also received the Western Big Six Honorable Mention Safety and receiver for the 2024 season. After high school, Wadsworth plans on obtaining his private pilot’s license through the sauk valley aviation program.
He then plans to enroll in a fast track program to earn his certificates. After gaining enough flying hours, he plans on becoming an airline pilot.
These two dedicated individuals have put all their effort into being the best students they possibly could be at Sterling High School and we wish them the best of luck in the future.
