Sterling High School’s Chapter of the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society has had their first induction of students in over 40 years. This society recognizes seniors who have done superior work in journalism or school media work and have been a member of publications for at least three semesters.
This year, there were twelve seniors who had the honor of being inducted into this society. The induction ceremony was held by English and Publications teacher Jennifer Drew, for each of the publications classes on April 4. This involved Drew giving a speech to recognize the hard work and dedication of each of the publications students inducted into this society.
Drew shared, “I wanted to make the chapter active again and honor those students who have been dedicated to publications throughout their time in high school. Few know how much time and effort these students put in and this is a small way to honor them.”
These students were awarded a certificate, sticker, and pin to go along with their incredible achievement into this society. After the ceremony, Drew provided each of her classes with donuts as another way to congratulate her students on all of the hard work they have done for publications.
Students felt honored to have all of their hard work finally be recognized. Senior Jubraan Alkhalaf said, “it felt amazing to be a part of this society, especially the first group of students in over 40 years.”
These students have done work for the yearbook, S.H.S. newspaper, and taken pictures for many school events. All members inducted into this society were students who took on leadership roles in publications to make more of a difference for all news going on at S.H.S.
Senior Victoria Nguyen “was a design editor [her] sophomore year, copy editor [her] junior year, and a Co-Editor-in-Chief [her] senior year, and was so happy that [she] was able to be a part of Quill and School.”
Quill and Scroll Society is an amazing achievement for these students that recognizes all the hard work they have done for our school. Drew was thrilled to be able to reintroduce this society to S.H.S. and hopes to continue this tradition in the future.
