Since summer is just around the corner, many teens will be looking for summer jobs. There are many jobs available for teens, ranging from ice cream shops, summer camp counselors, and different types of internships.
As you go to look through and see what job you may want, you might need some tips and tricks for your application and interview process. The interview process can be very stressful, especially if you’ve never worked.
For your interview, you should be honest and straight to the point. Some suggestions for the upcoming summer could be in the babysitting or camp counselor area. Currently the YMCA is looking for day camp counselors. Girl Scouts are looking for summer camp counselors as well.
Another good option could be internships for agriculture related fields. Interns may be needed, for instance, at Advanced Crop Care out of Rock Falls, as well as John Deere in Moline. At John Deere there are multiple student and internship programs available.
Other suggestions could be local food places, or slushy stands.
Arthur’s Garden Deli also has locations in Sterling, Rock Falls, and Dixon. Senior Carley Sullivan currently works at Arthur’s and stated, “The skills I use mostly throughout my work day consist of utilizing customer service, time management, teamwork, and problem-solving.”
Lifeguarding can also be a good choice. Between the YMCA, Polo Pool, and Duis Center, there are lots of opportunities.
Senior Hailyn Check-Garza shared, “My day at the Duis Center as a gymnastics instructor is pretty simple. On Tuesdays I teach tumbling one and a boys gymnastics class. On Wednesdays, I also teach a preschool class and an introduction to gymnastics class.”
Lawn care, powerwashing, or farm work for local places are also good options.
A summer job can be helpful if you are too busy during the school year. Now is a great time to start to think about what you can do to make some money, instead of sitting at home.
