National Honor Society members spent their February working on their blanket project. The NHS Blanket Project is a heart-felt project dedicated around making blankets for Oncology patients at CGH medical center here in Sterling, IL.
Throughout the school year, NHS students have been meeting with their advisor, Darci Francis. However, while there have been various meetings, the blanket project is the first official project the club is doing.
Available NHS students met during eighth hour throughout the end of January and the whole month of February to work together and complete the blankets. Mrs. Francis believes “this project benefits the students of NHS by allowing them the opportunity to serve others in our community.”
NHS is required to do one project for the year, and has been doing the blanket project for three years and have continued to keep the project going.
As stated earlier, these blankets are made for oncology patients at the local medical center, CGH. Mrs. Francis feels this is a good project to continue because “Many of the patients receiving their chemotherapy enjoy having a soft, warm blanket while having their treatment.”
This project is solely a way for these students in NHS to bring positivity to others and enjoy serving others who need support. With the four pillars of NHS being scholarship, leadership, character, and service, this project helps students strengthen their character.
CGH was so grateful for the blankets that NHS students made for them they even posted a picture on Facebook. Their post featured senior NHS members Samantha Knox, Jubraan Alkhalaf, and Eleanor Aitken. These three students are NHS officers.
Samantha Knox loved this project because “Delivering the blankets to the oncology department felt really special and the nurses there really showed their appreciation to us”.
NHS students should be extremely proud of themselves for their commitment to community and providing such a thoughtful gift to the Oncology department at their local medical center CGH. Keep up the good work!
