This university offers many varieties of minors and majors as well as athletics including over 170 undergraduate programs and 90 minors across four programs.
Aitken is a four-time state attendee for women’s tennis singles and has been a stand-out in the tennis program at SHS all four years. One of Aitkens coaches, Mike Gottemoler says “Ellie is a great tennis player and teammate”.
Tennis pushes Aitken to keep great grades and challenges her mentally and physically to continue to succeed. Aitken is known as a great teammate and a very knowledgeable leader on the team.
For Aitken, it was an easy choice to know she wanted to continue her tennis career as soon as highschool tennis started and she was frequently playing. She has had a passion for tennis since she was a kid, and said, “It’s a dream to play in college.”
Aitken loves the thrill of close matches and the amazing feeling of winning.
UWSP takes great care of all of their athletes as they are partnered with Marshfield Clinic Health Center. They make sure their athletes are in a great mindset and in the best physical health possible.
Aitken is known as a great teammate and one of her younger teammates, sophomore Fareeda Alkhalaf, said, “She makes me feel so motivated by her positive attitude throughout matches”. Aitken is very excited to get to know her new teammates and said, “I’m excited to develop my tennis game within the next four years.”
Aitken has already met a few of her college teammates and is excited to get to know them better.
She was looking into some other colleges including Wartburg College, Loras College, and University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. Although she enjoyed all of the colleges, UWSP stood out with a great tennis program and amazing academics.
Aitken said, “They have a very good Natural Resource Program that I’m excited to be involved in.” Aitken plans to major in environmental education and interpretation.
