With the 2025 football season coming to an end, the S.H.S. cheerleaders are preparing to host their kiddie camp! Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade can sign up to practice October 14th, 15th, and 16th, and perform at the October 17th home game.
Kiddie camp is a great way to give students of all ages a chance to experience and try out cheerleading before high school to see if it’s something they’d like to pursue. At camp, the kids will be split into three age groups that will practice at different times. Kindergarten through second grade will practice from 4pm-5pm, third through fifth grade will practice from 5:15pm- 6:15pm, and sixth through eighth grade will practice from 6:30pm- 7:30pm.
At each practice, high school cheerleaders will teach basic cheerleading skills including jumps, cheers, stunts, and a specially choreographed dance routine. These dance routines will be showcased on Friday, October 17th at the home game versus Quincy high school.
Junior Paizley Johnson’s favorite part of kiddie camp is teaching the routine. Johnson shared, “It’s a lot of fun to choreograph a short dance and be able to teach it to all the kids!”.
Every year, the cheerleaders get together at practice the week before camp and start choreographing a different dance for each age group. The girls are split into the three age groups and start by picking out a song, then making up their dance.
While the dances are a beloved part of camp, everyone’s absolute favorite part is always the matching shirts you get. Every cheerleader, both high schoolers and campers, gets a shirt that portrays that year’s theme.
Head Cheer Coach Laci Halverson takes pride in picking out the theme with this year’s being, “Cheer like a Beauty, Train like a BEAST.”
S.H.S. cheerleaders are working hard to make this camp unforgettable, so come see the future warrior cheerleaders perform October 17th at our home field.
