This year, Sterling High School welcomed two staff members, Kel Bond and Evan Wyllie, who will be working in the S.H.S. activities department. They are in charge of organizing activities, contacting workers for events, and confirming officials/schools for games.
Before becoming an activities director, Wyllie experienced college and high school coaching in Florida. Wyllie’s goal is to “create a high-achieving athletic department that strives for excellence” in multiple categories. He is mostly behind the scenes contacting officials, confirming with schools, etc., but he is ultimately at the forefront for every activity and sporting events that S.H.S has to offer.
S.H.S. was looking for someone who could support the activities director while also being a strength and conditioning coach. Bond has been a head coach at S.H.S. for four years, coaching boys track and field. He states that he “plans to be as present at as many athletic events as possible to support all Golden Warriors athletes.”
Many coaches have been appreciative of the new staff coming in. Girls’ cross country coach Megan Grady said, “Bond is an amazing coach and assistant director, and Wyllie is an amazing leader for the activities department.”
“Wyllie is very organized and has made a few minor changes that I think have been good,” shared head football coach Jon Schlemmer. The activities director and the assistant activities director have been making small adjustments to this year’s sports such as playing loyalty before every home game in all sports, and adjusting the fall jamboree order. Schlemmer also says that “he has been great so far and we are lucky to have him here at S.H.S.”
The addition of Bond and Wyllie marks a new era in the S.H.S’s activities department. Their skills combined together help enhance the activities program in a positive way.
