Senior Nicolas Battaglia is taking the next big step in his basketball journey, officially committing to Mount Mercy University. The talented guard, known for his work ethic, court vision, and high basketball IQ, decided with academics and athletics in mind.
“Mount Mercy felt like home from the start,” Battaglia said. “The coaches believed in me, and I’m excited to be part of a program that’s growing and ready to win.”
Battaglia has been a key leader on his high school team, earning high honors not just for his scoring and playmaking, but for his ability to lift teammates and bring energy on both ends of the floor. His competitive drive and positive attitude stood out to Mount Mercy’s coaching staff, who see him as a strong fit for their three point style of play, team-first system, and fast-paced game.
Coach Ryan Vasquez said, “Nico plays the right way; he’s an amazing player who’s willing to do whatever it takes to help his team succeed.” Battaglia averaged 14.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, and led the team with 35.4% from three.
As he gets ready to join the Mustangs, Battaglia is looking forward to pushing himself to the next level, both in the classroom and on the court. Battaglia plans to major in psychology. Battaglia is thrilled to continue his athletic and academic journey at Mount Mercy University. He sees this opportunity as the perfect next step to grow both as a basketball player and as a student.
“I’m excited to compete at the college level and challenge myself in the classroom,” Battaglia stated. In addition, he added, “Mount Mercy offers the right environment for me to succeed on and off the court.”
With this commitment, Mount Mercy added not just a skilled player but a leader ready to make an impact in his freshman year.
