The S.H.S. Student of the Month (SotM) is the highest level of academic and extracurricular recognition for S.H.S. seniors. SotM winners are students who challenge themselves with rigorous courses, are involved in many activities and/or athletics, have taken on a leadership roles within the school community, and portray S.H.S. positively. The two students who were awarded this title for May are Natalie Eddinger and Thai Nguyen.
Within her high school career, Eddinger has been involved in extracurricular activities and still earned a well-deserved 4.25 GPA. Eddinger has taken rigorous courses such as AP Pre-Calc, AP Language and Composition, and AP Biology. As well as her AP course load, Eddinger has taken multiple accelerated courses to challenge herself during her time at S.H.S.
In addition to her course load, Eddinger is involved in Young Doctors League, Student Council, basketball, and volleyball. On the high school basketball team, Eddinger claimed the role of most improved. Continuing her high school career, Eddinger plans to attend the University of Iowa to pursue a degree in biology on the pre-medical track, while also being a student athlete on the rowing team. After college, Eddinger hopes to become a pediatric cardiologist.
The other student of the month is Thai Nguyen. Nguyen is a hard-working student who has achieved a 4.298 GPA. To achieve this, he has taken AP Human Geography, AP U.S. History, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Language and Composition, AP U.S Gov, AP Chemistry, AP Lit, AP Statistics, and AP Psychology.
While not focusing on schoolwork, Nguyen attends Scholastic Bowl and has achieved the role of Scholastic Bowl captain. After high school, Nguyen plans to attend college and travel to new countries to see new things.
These two dedicated individuals have put all their effort into being the best students they can be at Sterling High School, and we wish them the best of luck in the future.
