National Honor Society is an academic organization that urges students to be involved in their community. On a national level, N.H.S. has requirements of scholarship and service that can be made stricter at the school’s discretion.
Students are required to have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. on a 4.0 scale and engage in some form of community service done without compensation. At S.H.S., members must serve a minimum of 10 hours per year in order to be able to wear the N.H.S. cords at graduation.
At the end of each year, new presidents are elected for the following year. This year, juniors Mackenzie Wolfe, Hazel Pham, Gavin Fischer, and Maggie Morris were elected to be next year’s presidents.
Morris originally joined N.H.S. “to make [Sterling] a better place and contribute in any way [she] can.” Morris is excited to build stronger relationships with her peers throughout her presidency.
Wolfe also joined N.H.S. to contribute to the community and “sought a leadership position in N.H.S. to give other club members a voice.” Wolfe hopes to be involved in the planning and executing of various projects such as the annual blanket making project.
Fischer has “looked up to a lot of former upperclassmen who were involved in the club” and wants to “keep the positive legacy of the club alive” throughout his presidency of N.H.S.
Pham has a great vision for the future of the club and wishes to “plan more events for the club and even bring in some speakers to give general advice to the club.”
Old presidents Eleanor Aitken, Jubraan Alkhalaf, Samantha Knox, and Patrick Riley excitedly welcome the new presidents and their ambition. Members are eager to move to the 2025-2026 under these new leaders.
