Recently, Sterling High School Senior Bryce Hartman announced his commitment to Sauk Valley Community College to further his golfing career at the collegiate level. Hartman, a multisport athlete, visited and considered two schools during his commitment process. Those two colleges were Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and Hartman’s ultimate choice in Sauk Valley.
Hartman excels in not only golf but baseball and basketball. Hartman has been a three-year starter on the Golden Warrior varsity squad for baseball and was a key player on the varsity basketball team his senior year.
When asked about why he chose Sauk Valley, Hartman said, “I chose Sauk because of the golf opportunities they offer” and that “it was a no brainer on committing to Sauk to play golf competitively for a couple more years.”
Hartman has played baseball and basketball from a very young age while always playing golf on the side.
When he reached high school golf, he moved into the spotlight and Hartman quickly progressed into one of the top players on day one of his freshman season.
While Hartman is capable of playing multiple sports at the next level, he chose to further his golf career for a multitude of reasons. Hartman stated that he “enjoy[s] playing the sport with others and want to continue a competitive sport in college” and that he enjoys “golf because of the various lessons it teaches [him] as a player.”
Hartman’s impressive senior campaign, which included a trip to sectionals, ultimately led to the exposure he needed in order to be noticed by colleges in the area.
Hartman knew he always had the talent; he just needed a chance to display it to those who haven’t seen him on the course.
Hartman said that “the summer was pretty much when [he] got [his] practice in golfing once or twice everyday. [He] was committed to getting better as a player and learning different things around the course.”
The process of getting recruited was pretty easy for Hartman, “the coach reached out to me” Hartman said, he continued by stating that “[he] was responsible for replying back to [the coach] with [his] commitment.”
Hartman looks to continue his success in high school onto the college scene and will continue to represent Sterling High School proudly and well in the many years to come.
