As the school year is coming to an end, many volunteer opportunities are available for students who need to finish their 25 hours for the Sauk Valley Impact Program and National Honor Society.
The deadline for the impact program is May 31, 2025. Students are encouraged to hit their 25 hours by that deadline to qualify for the next school year for the Sauk Valley Impact Program or they will not be able to continue doing their hours. Every month Sauk has a calendar listing each volunteer event available in Whiteside County. This allows easy access for each student to sign up. If you need further information, you can contact the supervisor for the event that day.
Counselor Cami Hartman adds, “It is important to submit the 25 hours each year on time or you will lose out on free schooling.”
S.H.S. students also have event listings from S.H.S. sports that they can volunteer for each game and meet. Emails get sent out every month for various volunteer opportunities at games and events. These events alone can earn you up to four hours. One of the most recent volunteer opportunities for the spring sports season is the boys baseball games. To help with these you contact Cami Hartman or Traci Nettleton. As well as baseball, softball and girls soccer are available for concession help.
Junior Ellie Wendelken added, “I enjoy helping out with concessions because it gives me an opportunity to earn lots of hours.”
Other opportunities to count for impact can include prom committee help with setting up at McCormick and cleaning up both prom and post prom. These opportunities can help both freshman and sophomores, and if interested anyone apart from the junior class can join the prom committee for more opportunities to volunteer. Helping set up and clean prom and post prom can get you six hours of volunteering.
Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and overall impact your future with free schooling through Sauk Valley Community College if all hours are submitted on time.
