Advanced Placement (AP) classes help advance and challenge students academically for future college courses. Most students take notes and stay on top of all of their classes and assignments but sometimes they fall behind and need a way to keep up. Here are some tips and tricks for studying for AP classes.
The beginning of the year starts out simple, but as the year progresses work gets harder and quick tasks become longer errands. Then from the end of Christmas break to the end of the year, classes get packed with assessments and homework.
AP Pre-Calculus teacher Alexis Rivera suggested, “There are always concepts that keep reappearing on tests. I highly recommend students to figure out the content that is reoccurring on those tests. Make sure you master those concepts, those are the big points.”
A good way to memorize and learn lessons is to write down notes. Colored sticky notes can be a good way to take notes for different topics in different classes. Writing notes down can help you remember topics rather than just reading them.
AP Biology teacher Nicole Schlemmer said, “Use whatever resources work best for you – whether it is creating flash cards, finding practice questions and essays, asking for help, or creating a study group with others. You may even find that different units require different types of studying.”
If you cannot find a way for you to truly understand and remember the material, ask your teacher for help! Teachers are always willing to help you and offer suggestions on how to remember things, maybe with catchy songs or phrases.
When asked for a studying tip, junior Mia Rodriguez suggested “being alone and listening to soft music with no words and quizzing yourself” because it helps her remember the material.
Although AP classes may seem hard, if you’re able and willing to try different types of studying, then you will be able to understand the information and keep up with the work.
