As prom gets closer, we are seeing many new prom dress trends. Some of these trends include ruffles, corset tops, metallic fabric, strapless tops, and more elegant and classy dresses.
Every year, there seems to be a different trend that comes to light, whether it’s an old trend that is coming back, or a new one that has never been seen before. This year we are seeing lots of new and old trends coming back.
Junior Ellie Kested, who works at Selmis Formal Wear, says that “some of the most popular dress styles I’m seeing are definitely strapless dresses. These are in style this year for sure!”
Along with the strapless dresses, many girls are leaning towards dresses with a corset-like bodice. Ruffles have also been a big hit this year that often go well with a corset top. The ruffles can range from soft, to big and fluffy.
When freshman Chloe Hemminger was asked what she would wear if she got to go to prom she said she “loves a strapless dress, maybe a silky material and [I] love bright orange dresses and purple dresses.”
Bright colors have also recently been popular. Instead of lighter shades of colors, people have been getting more vibrant colors that really pop.
On the other hand, some girls are leaning more towards a classic and timeless look. Senior Carmen Camacho says “My favorite prom dress trend at the moment is the very classy, elegant dresses that instead of giving prom, they’re giving Hollywood/Met Gala.”
An older trend that has come back, is the satin and silk dresses. Publications teacher Jennifer Drew says that when she went to prom “Dresses really weren’t sparkly/sequins then. Many were velvet, satin, silk, brocade, etc.”
Overall your prom dress can be the perfect way to express yourself whether it includes one of these trends, or something entirely different.
