Anatomy and Physiology is a class that has been offered to students at S.H.S. for 15 years. This class is taught by Nicole Schlemmer, who has taught 14 out of 15 years of this class. Students have the opportunity to learn about the human body and the functions of it.
Recently, students have been learning about the nervous and digestive systems. To go along with these particular units, students have had the opportunity to go to the University of Health Sciences located in Lombard, Ill.
At the university, students are able to see and touch a cadaver. This is a great opportunity for students to be hands-on and relate the real life body with what they have been learning in the classroom.
Schlemmer said, “I love watching everyone interact with the body and making connections you can only make with a real life model and seeing everyone explore all the different parts.”
13 anatomy classes have had the opportunity to attend this fun filled field trip, with the other two years being restricted by COVID-19.
Junior Lilliana Cantu said, “I had a great time on the field trip and being able to see the inside of a real body was really cool.”
During the field trip, the tour guide at the University of Health Sciences provides students with great information about the medical field. In addition to this, the mentor will cover different medical majors students can go into by covering all topics of interest.
Senior Natalie Eddinger said, “I really enjoyed seeing the cadaver as I plan to go into a profession in the medical field.”
This is a great trip for students to go on as the interest in the medical field increases within the student body.
