Boys Basketball:
Record: 16-16
Key Contributors: Seniors Kaedon Phillips, Nicolas Battaglia, and Maddux Osborn
Accomplishments: Battaglia made the most threes in a single game with nine. Phillips broke the single season made free throw record with 180 along with becoming a member of the 1000 point scoring club. The team also had a regional championship appearance.
Phillips stated that “it’s been an up and down year, but as a senior, I have been able to help the younger guys prepare for next season” and that “going into regionals, we focused on growth to go and win a regional championship.”
Girls Basketball:
Record: 29-5
Key Contributors: Sophomore Joslynn James and senior Madison Austin
Accomplishments: The team won the Western Big Six for the first time in program history with a 13-1 conference record. Austin joined the 1000 point club for a career. The team also won the program’s first regional Championship since 2019 along with their first Sectional Championship since 2007. They also had a 13-0 record at home throughout the season. Senior Delali Amankwa said that she “thinks it was a comeback season for us, we put in a lot of hard work and it was finally showcased for everyone to see.”
Boys Swimming:
Record: 5-1
Key Contributors: Seniors Patrick Riley and Conner Porter
Accomplishments: They placed second at the Western Big Six Conference meet. Eight swimmers advanced to the Sectional meet, and placed third as a team at Sectionals. Porter sectional champ in 200 meter freestyle. The team placed second in the 400 meter freestyle relay as well as third place in 200 meter medley relay. Riley placed second in 200 IM and back. Senior Drew Nettleton said that “[he] think[s] it was a great season overall. The team has accomplished a lot after not many people expected us to do well.”
Boys Wrestling:
Record: Conference Meet Finish: 5th
Key Contributors: Seniors Zyan Westbrook, Gage Tate and junior Cael Lyons
Accomplishments: Westbrook was conference champion, regional champion, and sectional champion. Also, Tate and Westbrook were state qualifiers with Westbrook finishing with a 38-4 record. Westbrook stated that he “think[s] [they] had a great season overall with lots of improvement by everyone on the team. Only up from here!”
Girls Wrestling:
Record: Dual Meet Record: 11-3
Key Contributors: Junior Skyann Munoz and senior Noelani Ibarra
Accomplishments: Munoz placed second in her regional. This was also the first season ever as a program. Munoz and junior Lillian Tunk were both sectional qualifiers.
Head Coach Nolan Baker exclaimed that “the girls did a great job of stepping up and paving the way for future seasons of Girls Wrestling at SHS.” and concluded his statement by highlighting that “girls wrestling is the fastest growing sport in America, and Sterling girls are now a part of that movement.”
Boys Bowling:
Record: Dual Meet Record: 3-11
Key Contributors: Junior Bryce Kooy and senior Connor Jagitsch
Accomplishments: Kooy and senior David Olerichs advance to sectionals after placing in the top ten at regionals. Olerichs emphasized that “the season was definitely challenging, but [he] gained valuable experience and made great memories with (his) teammates. [he] hopes that next year the team will continue to improve and see more wins in the future.”
Girls Bowling:

Key Contributors: Sophomore Sarah Doughty and senior Emily Doss
Accomplishments: Doughty won an individual sectional championship and qualified for state in the process. The team also placed second at regionals to advance to sectionals as a team. Senior Maddeline Malooly exclaimed that she “thinks [their] season went super well in a technical sense but also with [their] team bonding and enjoyment of the season. [They] all really got to know each other and that really strengthened [their] team and performance. [She’s] hopeful that next year’s team will maintain the same positive environment. ”
