Library Club STEM day is an annual event held by Heather Johnson’s Library Club members at Lincoln Elementary School. STEM day is a day where club members will go to Lincoln Elementary School and partake in different STEM related activities with the fourth grade classes.
This STEM fun filled day will be hosted on April 24 and the fourth graders will engage in activities in relation to a book they have been reading. “The Wild Robot” written by Peter Brown has been a main focal point for these fourth graders’ learning criteria and will be the focus of the STEM activities.
The fourth grade students will be given tiny robots similar to the robot in the book, as well as a bag of clay and other materials with an objective of camouflaging their robots into a handmade island, made by club leader Johnson.
Library Club has been a club at S.H.S. for eight years and is available to any and all S.H.S. students. Each year the club fluctuates anywhere from 10-20 students and is open to all student’s schedules.
The club is a very much come and go as you please club, allowing students to go to events that they want.
Club member Deyanie Alfaro said, “I think it’s really important to interact with the kids and I’m excited to work with them.”
Students have the opportunity to attend different college visits and speak with college representatives, as well as visiting book stores, libraries, and attending read alouds.
Students from Johnson’s Introduction to Education class will be helping with this event as well. Club advisor Heather Johnson shared, “It’s fun to watch the kids explore stem principles and literacy in unique ways.”
These activities will force students to connect what they have learned from the book and apply it to the real world and the activities planned for them.
