Senior Kaitlyn Taylor is furthering her academics and softball career at Indian Hills Community College. This college is located in Ottumwa, IA, and is a public two-year community college. This community college has great academics and prepares students and athletes to eventually transfer to a four-year university. Indian Hills has many hands-on programs and is a great school for skilled trades.
Taylor is a single sport athlete as a senior, focusing only on softball. She has played travel softball since she was ten years old and currently participates in travel softball for the Bombers, which is a travel softball program out of Quad Cities. Softball pushes Taylor mentally and physically, but offers her constant opportunities.
While Taylor chose from limited options, she really enjoyed Indian Hills Community College. She looked into other colleges like DMACC and Rock Valley, but she enjoyed the coaching staff of Indian Hills. She loves the campus and plans to stay in a close-by apartment with some of her teammates and Taylor said, “It’s a very homey vibe.”
Indian Hills has a good academic program, and perfectly prepares students to transfer to a four-year college.
Taylor shared, “I recently made the decision to look into being a respiratory therapist, which is not offered at Indian Hills, but they will set me up with classes that I will then transfer to a four-year university.”
The softball program is very successful and is known to be one of the best academic-athlete schools in the state of Iowa. Taylor likes the program and the girls, explaining that “they seem very hardworking, and also look to have a good time.”
Another thing Taylor looked into was playing at the next level after her first two years, and Indian Hills has sent many players off to compete at a higher level.
Although Taylor is excited to start her next chapter, she has been a part of the Sterling High School softball program for all four years.
Teammate junior Lilianna Cantu said, “Kaitlyn always lifts the team’s energy, and will always be there for you when you’re down.”
Taylor being a senior captain and someone the coaches know they can count on is something that stands out about her.
Softball assistant coach Gretchen Gould said, “She helps her teammates and the program get better every day.”
Taylor is very excited to continue her athletic and academic career at Indian Hills, and is so excited to start her first college season.
