Students of Sterling High School recently received an email from associate principal Alexandra Miller stating “You’re A Winner.” The Athletic Booster Club for S.H.S. awarded students who prioritize their academics with a free lunch during school. The lunch consisted of Chicken George chicken tenders, fries, select sauces, and bottled water.
The criteria to earn this incentive is to have all A’s, B’s, and C’s, have accumulated a 95% attendance rate (roughly 3.5 class days), and received no disciplinary referrals. All of these criteria had to be met during the first semester at SHS.
This is an annual incentive that is provided by the Academic Booster Club. Each year, they raise money and put aside some to reward studious students. This adds just another reason on why students should care about their grades and attendance.
During their lunch, all students who received the email headed down to the gymnasium and signed in with their lunch code to ensure they were eligible for the lunch. When the students walked in, they were handed a handful of chicken tenders, fries and Jan sauce.
Jan sauce is Candlelight’s secret sauce with a sweet and savory taste. Many students were happy to see there was Jan sauce available with the chicken.
Senior Bryce Hartmen said, “Jan Sauce is one-thousand times better than any contending sauce in the world.”
Although it was a filling lunch, many students were still hungry. Senior Drew Nettleton asked principal Jason Austin if seconds were allowed and he approved so students who were still hungry got back in line once everyone was served.
After students finished their lunch, they remained in the gymnasium until 6th period started. Students were very thankful to the people serving their food as well as the Academic Boosters for making the lunch possible. The lunch turned out to be successful with overall positive reviews from the students.
