Mac Miller is a hip-hop and rap artist who tragically passed away in September 2018. Despite his passing, he and his team of producers managed to release two albums including his new album “Balloonerism,” which was released on January 17, 2025.
Mac Miller has been releasing albums since 2011. His popularity started rising ever since then. After the release of “Balloonerism,” the album reached the top of the Billboard charts as well as top album sales. Many of Miller’s albums are closely based on love and heartbreak, while “Balloonerism” main idea is based on a balloon flying high until it rises and pops, just like it imitates life and death.
I honestly prefer more of his sad and lovely songs because we get to see him in a different light. Miller is often known for using his personal life and love interest into his songs rather than being super upbeat all the time. Songs like “Tomorrow Will Never Know” and “Do You Have A Destination” are more of the sadder songs on the album, they refer to what will happen after life.
Aside from the sad songs the rest of the songs on the album are more mellow and chill. These songs include “ Funny Papers” and “DJ’s Chord Organ” which features pop artist SZA. I was honestly shocked to see SZA featured on the album but it makes sense because most of their songs alone are about heartbreak, love or revenge.
Along with the album itself, Mac Miller also helped produce and create an animated short film called “Balloonerism” that also released the same day as the album. The film follows a bunch of middle school kids being followed by the music “Chords Organ.” The film’s sound is all songs from the album placed in order to go along with the film. This film can be watched on Amazon Prime Video.
Overall I personally enjoyed the album and film and it was a perfect fit with the rest of his previous albums, I hope to see more posthumous songs from him.

I love mac miller & Always been a huge fan of his. No matter how long ago he passed away, I’m still very much in love with his music. He was always my inspiration of moving forward with my life. Whether that be a loss, a hearbreak, or even just one of those sad days. I always seem to be uplifted every time I hear one of his songs. R.I.P. Mac Miller, his legacy still lives on in my heart.
