From fake jobs to stealing money, this year’s musical “Catch Me If You Can,” will have you on the edge of your seats. Musical auditions were held on November 13 and 14; however, the cast list was not posted until December 13.
“Catch Me If You Can” follows the story of con artist Frank Abagnale who runs away from home with nothing more than his imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks. Abagnale successfully poses as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer, until his lies catch up to him and he gains the attention of FBI agent, Carl Hanratty. Hanratty pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes.
Practices for this musical started on January 6, right after coming back from Christmas break. Practice of this production is from 7-9, Monday through Thursday. On days when members have to learn the dances, practices tend to be around three hours.
There are many different parts of the musical that have to come together to make this performance happen.
Sophomore Jocelyn Pink said, “Some days we all learn the songs in the choir room and other days we work through the blocking and choreography for the dances.”
This is choir teacher Weston Henry’s first time directing the musical after past director Timothy Schlegel is taking a step back. Schlegel will still be helping with parts of the musical, just not as much as he has done in the past. New Challand Middle School choir teacher Matthew Butler will also be helping with music for this musical, which will give Henry more time to work on the acting portion.
Many directors and teachers are working together behind the scenes to make the musical the best that it can be.
Senior Christina Moore said, “There’s a different person available at all times to work with characters, music, and dynamics.”
This musical will be performed on February 28, and March 1 and 2. Students are putting in a lot of work at practices and can’t wait for the performance to come together.
