Throughout the school year, Sterling High School’s Key Club has been working on numerous service projects that are sure to make an impact on the community.
In November, Key Club officers met with their counterparts in Dixon High School to plan an interclub service project. The officers decided to collect hygiene donations and make tied blankets for the labor and delivery ward of CGH Medical Hospital.
Freshman Emma Pham explains how “[Working with Dixon] was a very smooth process and great for both of the clubs. We shared ideas between the clubs and they gave us helpful advice as they are a more experienced club than us.”
All hygiene materials donated to Key Club were taken to the YWCA women’s shelter in Sterling. Hygiene materials included baby supplies, oral supplies, undergarments, hairbrushes, hair ties, and skincare.
Club advisor Marissa Record shared, “The hygiene drive addressed a real need in the community, ensuring that people have access to basic items like toothpaste, soap, and shampoo.”
On January 18, both Sterling High School and Dixon High School’s Key Clubs came together at the Sterling Schools Foundation to make tied blankets. Roughly 20 blankets were made that day, including ten for new mothers and ten for newborns.
Club president Eleanor Aitken shared, “Tied blankets are a way to provide comfort and warmth to families in the local hospital’s labor and delivery ward. It was all about combining creativity, service, and teamwork to support those in need.”
Both Key Clubs also spent time to discuss their club operations and share ideas for the fellow club to take home. Also shared was a glimpse into this year’s District Convention and Leadership Conference, which both Sterling and Dixon plan to attend.
The community is grateful for contributions made by the S.H.S. Key Club and look forward to seeing what the club has in store for their next service project.
