As many new businesses are coming to Sterling and with prom right around the corner, business owner Katy Selmi expanded her business and opened a new formal wear shop, “Selmi’s Formal Wear,” located in Northland Mall.
While Selmi’s has stunning dresses for your next big event, they also have the option for you to rent or buy a tux. Need dress shoes? Ties or bow ties? They have you covered.
Senior Addison Andrews said, “I loved Selmi’s! It was a very calm environment. I chose to go there just to try on a dress and see what I liked. I originally wasn’t planning on getting a dress but I ended up falling in love with the dress I got!”
They recently hosted a prom show on January 12 at the mall with many vendors. They had live models, live demos, giveaways and much more. Selmi’s Formal Wear has some of the top dress brands, including Sherri Hill, Amara, Jovani, Primavera, Rachel Allan, Aleta, Juliet, and Portia & Scarlett.
The store’s hours are Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. but on Saturdays and Sundays, the hours are 12 p.m to 5 p.m. You can go online to selmisformalwear.com to book your appointment to find your dream dress. You can always stop inside to look around as well.
Once you do find your perfect dress, they mark it for the school you attend so no one can have the exact same dress as you. While you are purchasing your dress, you can use one of the many ambassador codes to receive $20 off your dress. Sterling High School ambassadors include Junior Ellie Kested, Senior Esra Ramirez, and Senior Hailyn Check-Garza.
One of Sterling High School ambassadors Esra Ramirez stated, “Being an ambassador has so many perks and I love all of them. You get first looks at all the new arrivals of dresses, trying on as many dresses you want and being involved in the prom and wedding expos.”
After your purchase, you will be marked in the system with your dress and the name of the color. Then your date can come in and get a tux that matches you perfectly and don’t forget to have him stop by the flower bar to get you the most amazing flowers to tie everything together.
In addition to this business, they are hosting another event Sunday, February 2 from 12 p.m.- 3 p.m. at Northland Mall; this event is being sponsored by Selmi’s Formal Wear, Selmi’s Weddings & Events, 7:24 Fitness on the Rock, and Sauk Valley Media. Vendors that specialize in planning your perfect wedding will also be there. The fashion show begins at 2 p.m. Make sure to check it out.
