On Friday January 17, 2025, during halftime of the boys basketball game, the Poms team performed their annual guy girl dance. This is also during the annual Crazy for a Cure night, held by Sterling High School’s student council.
For the performance the songs they danced to were “Yeah!” by Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris, “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, “Teach Me How to Dougie” by Cali Swag District, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by Soulja Boy Tell’em, “Get Low” by Lil Jon and The Eastside Boyz, and finally ended the dance with Without Me by Eminem. They performed during halftime of the game against Geneseo. This year seniors Addison Andrews and Lillian Reaver choreographed and made the music for the dance.
For this special dance, each girl on the team chooses a guy to dance with, leading there to be 46 dancers on the court that night. To prepare for the performance they had practice every day after other practices from 5:30 to 7 or from 5:30 to 6:30, giving the dancers plenty of time to perfect it. Sophomore Megan Stutzke said she was excited “to perform the dance, because everybody really enjoys seeing the dance and knows everyone worked hard that week.”
Coach Kassidy Kenney shared, “It has been a fun tradition for many years that the team and the community look forward to.”
Having the guy girl the same night as Crazy for a Cure, brings in people for both events, raising money for Crazy for a Cure, while also giving the audience something to look forward to.
Junior Ellie Kested said her favorite part was “getting to spend time with everybody and show the guys a little bit of what a week being a part of the poms team is like.”
Many people look forward to the guy girl dance. It gives the audience a good laugh during halftime of the basketball game.
