Season two of “OG Fortnite Battle Royale” is releasing on January 31 this year. This is a highly anticipated release bringing 44.7 million active players to its first season.
“Fortnite” is a competitive battle royale game. 100 players jump out of a flying bus and land on a deserted island. Once they land, players loot and gain materials. They use these materials to gain an advantage against the competing players. There is a storm that continuously shrinks to bring everyone closer together. The last person alive gets a victory royale.
“Fortnite Battle Royale” was released on September 26, 2017, and has been near the top of gaming for nearly seven years reaching its peak in late 2018 and early 2019.
The game underwent a series of changes over the years receiving negative feedback from their community. This is also affected by the global player count
Then “Fortnite” announced the return of the original map and weapons. This was such a big deal because everyone missed the old “Fortnite.”
Sophomore Emmanuel Arreola said, “I’m so happy to see they’re bringing back the old map. ‘Fortnite’ hasn’t been the same since 2019.”
Arreola wasn’t the only one who was excited about “OG Fortnite” re-releasing. “Fortnite” recorded a 700% higher peak than its competing game, “League of Legends,” with well over a million concurrent players.
Senior Lincoln Davis is ecstatic with the new release. Davis shared, “The game is massive. None can compare.”
This peak ended up being larger than their previous. Surpassing their player peak in 2018 winning multiple awards. Some of these awards included “The Game Award for Best Multiplayer Game”, “The Game Award for The Best Ongoing Game”, and “Teen Choice Award for Video Game.”
With only 21% of “Fortnite” total players being from the United States, “Fortnite” is by far a regional game. With servers in every continent except Antarctica, “Fortnite” strives to expand its game. This is likely a large reason for their recent success.
