Are you stuck inside because of the cold weather? Even though the temperatures are dropping and people tend to stay indoors, you don’t have to be stuck inside. There are many fun activities you can do with your friends including sledding, tubing, ice skating, ice fishing, and stargazing.
Sledding is a fun winter activity that anyone can enjoy, as long as there’s snow and you have a sled you’re good to go. If you ever plan on going sledding, there are many local places you can go to for a good time. Some of these places are Sinnissippi Park, Redfield Park, Hoover Park, and basically any place with a hill. And if you’re in need of a sled, many local stores like Walmart and Menards supply them.
Another fun activity you can do in the winter is ice skating; It’s a great way to glide around and appreciate the cold weather. Ice skating combines both fun and physical activity and can be a great way to stay active during the winter. Ice skating is an activity that you can enjoy with whoever and however many people you want. There are many possible places for ice skating, this could include going through the Dixon park district, local ponds or lakes as long as the ice is thick enough and safe.
Sophomore Sawyer Springman shared, “I like to ice skate in the winter. I go with my friends on a frozen lake and we just skate around.”
Ice fishing is a fun way to stay outside and still do your favorite hobby in cold weather. With the right gear, almost anyone can enjoy ice fishing. You can visit your favorite fishing spot in the winter and enjoy just as much as you did in the summer. You’ll need to always check the thickness of the ice before you go out and bring a friend incase of any emergencies.
Skiing and snowboarding are fun and exciting ways to stay active and have fun in the snow. There are different kinds of skiing like downhill skiing or cross country skiing where you enjoy snowy trails while working on endurance. Gliding around on the snow is something you can do wherever you prefer whether it’s around town or driving out of town for slopes. It’s also a great activity you can enjoy with your friends or family to get out of the house.
Sophomore student Carson Leigh said, “I like to go to Snowstar in Andalusia, Illinois, because you can tube or go snowboarding. There’s a big hill for sledding but it’s in a tube and you can do it at the same time with all of your group.”
There are plenty of ways you can keep yourself busy in the winter while being outdoors weather its sledding, tubing, ice skating, ice fishing, skiing and snowboarding. Though it’s cold, bundling up and going outside can cure boredom and can help you maintain being active. Finding activities to do will give you memories with family or friends and give you a good time.
