“Moana 2” is a comedic, thrilling, and heartwarming family-friendly movie that came to theaters on November 27, 2024. Moana is played by voice actress Auli’i Cravalho.
Moana ventures across the sea to an island that was taken over by evil. She must reconnect her people with the islands all over the sea.
Characters from the first movie are still featured as well as new characters. They learn to work together and take chances with fun songs. “Moana 2” has good songs and delivers a message for all ages.
Some people loved “Moana 2” while others disliked it. Critic Katie Walsh said the movie had “gorgeous animation, a thoughtful representation of the Polynesian culture and another exciting adventure.”
While it had many beautiful and colorful scenes, one downside to the movie was the soundtrack. Critic Matt Singer believes, “Moana’s musical numbers were its greatest strength; Moana 2’s musical numbers are its greatest weakness.”
I personally prefer the first movie. I grew up watching “Moana” and listening to the songs. I disliked the introduced characters and favor the simpler original.
“Moana 2” cost producers, Yvett Merino and Christina Chen, about 150 million dollars to produce the movie. It has so far grossed 300 million domestically and 600 million globally.
“Moana 2” is currently only available to watch in theaters, but will be available in either February or March in 2025 on Disney Plus.
Instead of going on a mission alone, like in the first movie, Moana brings a crew. The audience is introduced to more characters such as Moana’s little sister, Simea, crew members Kele, Moni, Loto, and bat lady, Matangi.
At first they have trouble teaming up, but with Moana’s enthusiasm, they are able to successfully work together. They come across a clam, the Kakamora, and finally Nalo. There are different exhilarating twists and turns that Moana has to overcome.
“Moana 2” had multiple positive messages including sometimes you need to get lost to find your way. Moana learns this, helping her get out of a difficult situation.
Working as a team is beneficial for everyone and sometimes you just have to get out of your comfort zone. At first, Moana and her crew aren’t getting along to sail the boat. She encourages them to work together and try to have fun which helps them get to where they are going.
“Moana” is an enjoyable, cute movie to see with family and friends of all ages.
